\nYou got a ton written at one time, and that's great. Now you've developed a lot of background. However, you need to figure out where your story is going, and you need to focus a lot more on developing the conflict. Right now, the scenes are amusing, but you've not built any suspense or made me wonder about anything yet, so the episodes seem unimportant and disconnected. Again, this is fine for the opening, but it's time you moved into the rising action so you can get some momentum. What will the drama be? What will keep us reading?

\nTry to start thinking more in terms of scenes rather than a running narration. Set up a scene (like the dining room scene) and let it go for a while: a lengthy conversation? some sort of more complicated interaction? When you can, try to avoid long paragraphs. They are hard to read and deprive your writing of momentum. Think about shorter paragraphs and dialogue. Perhaps you'll have more of this once you get going.

\nI'm not totally sure what a detective would be doing at the college world series. Are they expecting problems? Is there a case he's working on that involves one of the players?
